STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
WHAT IS THE METROLEX MILITARY CHARITABLE TRUST?
The Metroplex Military Charitable Trust (MMCT) is an IRS 501 (c) (3) charity which began in 1991 in Dallas, Texas. Its mission is to provide economic support to local military personnel of all services-regular, reserve and retired- and to support military charities and volunteer organizations.
CURRENT PRIMARY PROJECTS
(1) Metroplex Marine Corps High School Junior ROTC Programs
There are currently 7 Greater Metroplex area High School Marine Corps JROTC programs involving a combined total of 700-1000 male and female students, each commanded by a retired field grade (Major through Colonel) Marine Officer and at retired Marine Staff Non-Commissioned Officers. In addition to the invaluable leadership and citizenship training imparted by these resolute retired Marines, each unit must also continuously create fundraisers to pay travel, lodging, and registration costs for the unit competitions they annually attend.
(2) North Texas VA Warrior Patient Shuttle Service
North Texas Veterans VA Warrior Patient Shuttle Service (NTVAWPSS) is an all-volunteer direct support shuttle van service for amputee, PTSD, and brain injured OIF & OEF Vets. It began in 2007 when MMCT received a $250,000 grant from The Triad Fund to buy three wheelchair-converted Dodge Caravans used to provide an all-volunteer direct support shuttle van service for OIF & OEF Veteran VA patients to and from their respective appointments at North Texas VA health care facilities. In 2010 MMCT secured a second $150,000 grant from The Triad Fund to further support the NTVAWPSS. Added vans donated to the effort and MMCT continues to underwrite expenses for all NTVAWPSS vans. In 2017: approximately 400 veterans were provided with 500 roundtrips from their homes to their medical appointments. In 2018: 563 veterans received 520 roundtrips because there was a large increase of female and older veterans. In 2019: 584 Vets received 602 roundtrips, including trips to Tyler. The longest was to Eastland TX., with 3 trips from Oklahoma and two trips to BAMC in San Antonio.
HISTORY OF MMCT
MMCT has always received donations for specific projects. Noteworthy projects have been:
State Fair of Texas Permanent Reviewing Stand-created in 1991.
Metroplex Annual Toys for Tots G & A Expenses through 2022-assured all public donations are for toys.
Unit Monument/Memorials-MMCT has underwritten all costs for four military unit monument/memorials, including the Chosin Few Monuments, one was dedicated at the National Museum of the United States Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia and one was dedicated at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
Metroplex Veterans Legal Services-In 2013 MMCT created the Metroplex Veterans Legal Services (MVLS) which provided free legal aid clinics to indigent veterans who served honorably. During it period of existence, which ended July 2024, MVLS conducted 58 single-issue clinics and provided 789 legal consultations to 765 Veterans and 2 widows of Veterans, all of whom resided in 68 Texas Counties.
Cowtown Warriors Ball (CWB)-was created after MMCT underwrote the cost of bringing 42 active-duty members of the Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment to the 2011 Super Bowl. CWB raised over $600,000 distributed directly to Post 9-11 veterans of all services in the Metroplex, who served honorably and needed immediate financial help. (In 2019 the COWTOWN WARRIORS project spun off into its own 501 (c)(3) Charity).
ALL VOLUNTEER
All Trustee, labor, and administrative services are all volunteered. The only direct expenses incurred by the Trust are for CPA audit and Tax return preparation, the Trustee Liability insurance premium, and minimal office expenses.
